Soccer and a moth
Sigh…. art and quilting seem far, far away as summer winds down. I’m REALLY looking forward to six days from now when the boys will be IN SCHOOL! In the meantime, Eli has begun soccer and found a moth (way back in June) that we wanted to ask if anyone knows what it is. We got slightly distracted by Joshua’s accident and hospitalization, then Paul’s surgery (they are all on the mend… in three months Joshua will be fine and Paul will still be mending….). Anyway, does anyone know what kind of moth this is?
And here is Eli in his very first soccer games–this is during the second game up in Hampden on Sunday; Eli is on the far right in light blue shirt:
and here he is, the kid in the foreground just left of center:
and on the far right, sorta behind the boy in purple and to theleft of the dad with the red backpack:
and he also got to play goalie, and had a couple of great saves, and only let through one goal:
Now…off to the last SeaDogs game of the summer. I miss making art and sewing! SOON……

Hi there! I looked up your moth at butterflies and moths.org. The name of your beautiful moth is a POLYPHEMUS MOTH. The moth website is pretty neat if your into that sort of thing. I’ve been enjoying your site also. I’d like to say thank you for sharing your quilts and knowlege. You are truly a great teacher.

It’s a cecropia moth.

I agree with Peggy. Your moth is a Polyphemus moth. Check the photo on this page:

I’m glad your “sick” ones are doing much better. I enjoy your blog immensely!!

Well, I’m not the first to ID your moth — but I thought ‘polyphemus’ when I saw it and just checked it out by Googling. I’m sometimes amazed at answers to questions that just pop into my head — and are so often right! I often picture my memory as a stuffed full but rather disorganized filing cabinet — there is a lot in there but I’m never sure if I can find it!
I hope that Eli’s soccer doesn’t mean he is giving up martial arts — he was doing so well! OTOH variety is the spice of life!

Glad all your wounded are getting better. Won’t it be great to have a quiet daytime house where you can create art again.
I finished the piece I asked about how to do facing, it turned out very well. I am sewing the label on now, I have entered it in our local show. Won’t win any ribbons, too much competition but will be nice to get it out in the public.

PS: Enjoyed the moth and soccer pictures today.
