Local populations

Just a quick addition:  I was curious about the combined popoulation of the “five towns” area, which is Camden, Rockport, and the “H-A-L” (Hope, Appleton and Lincolnville) towns, plus the “big” town and county seat, Rockland.  It’s smaller / fewer souls than I thought:

  • Camden population:           5,254
  • Rockport population:         3,209
  • Hope population:                1,310
  • Appleton population:         1,271
  • Lincolnville population:    2,042
  • Total for the 5-towns:      13,086

Rockland population:                     7,609

Total for our immediate “area”   20,695

(Sorry about the wobbly formatting…it is nice and even in draft, but on the web stuff “moves”)

I also just discovered a brief history of  Hope, Maine online.  One local landmark is Hatchet Mountain which got its name because local “warring” Native Americans literally buried the Hatchet on the mountainside.  COOL!  And there are apparently 513 households in Hope, and we get to be one of them!  WOOT~!

We have a Hope here in Illinois. Population probably less than 10! Just a bump in the road, as my dad used to say. But it once was a fairly thriving small village with a church, general store, even had its own doctor.

Enjoyed looking at your pictures and reading your blog. I have a daughter that lives in South Portland Maine and she has a summer cottage on Peaks Is. I miss her and my grandsons alot so every time I see someone is from Maine, I get interested. I saw your post on the Janome Group, I am also a member of that group. You have a beautiful home. Hope you enjoy it. I am looking forward to visiting Maine again in the summer. It is a lovely place. Marcia

I forgot to mention that my daughter has a blog too, it is called” The Cold House Rules” which she named after her cottage on Peaks. It is a common practise for people to name their homes on Peaks. Marcia
