Sunrise
Our younger son has joined jazz band, and practices are Weds. mornings before school. So instead of sending him to the bus at 6:50 a.m., I drive him to school. In winter, this means GLORIOUS sunrises, and today was one of the best. The pictures are with my cell phone camera, so not as good as my good camera, but still pretty darn amazing. So just an hour ago this is what I got to see after dropping Eli, snapping a shot over town to the harbor and distant islands. I uploaded LARGE files, so I apologize if they are slow to load; they should be clickable to see a larger view.
And here is the sunrise in my neighborhood:
And from the road, by the driveway of a downhill neighbor whose house faces more towards the East:
Ahhhh…..Maine!
I keep thinking of my Dad…he was born in 1899, when gaslight was not common, was a teenager when the Wright Brothers flew at Kitty Hawk, when telephones were rare. He used to be amazed at men on the moon, think of what he’d think of the internet and cell phones! I can’t imagine what he would think to see me have a phone smaller than a deck of cards, that is also a camera, so I can send a photo to my son and to myself then post it to share with the *world* in a matter of minutes. He’d be amazed and smile!

Lovely sunrise! I forgot to look at mine — had the drapes drawn … As for changes since your dad was born, how about the changes we have seen in our own lifetimes? I can count not only the technological marvels like the Internet and its related gadgets but things we take for granted like frozen foods, the microwave, ziplock plastic bags, modern medicine and surgery — this is not the world I grew up in!

What gorgeous shots! On another note, I have you beat–my Dad was born in 1884, but then again, I’m much older than you. I was born when he was 57. On another note–I don’t envy your driving on the icy roads like those pictured in one of your photos.

My sister and I often discuss what our mother would think about the mobile phones and the internet. She used to have to walk to the bottom of the our street to use the public telephone. She was born in 1910 and died in 1978. (Much too young). I remember when she first tried an electric sewing machine. She kept saying it went too fast and we said well take your foot off the foot pedal. I can’t believe how much our life has changed in such a short time. I was born in 1933 (very mature lady!!) and I love the internet, the mobile phones and all the wonder electronic gadgets we can buy now. I can have such a lot of fun now! I forgot to say that your sunrise photographs are very impressive. Dorothy.
