Liberation Day!
Moms across Maine are celebrating:
It is Back To School Week!!!!!!!!!!!
Every year I take a picture on back-to-school day. They are getting less and less cooperative each year. Here is the older one, this morning–looks thrilled, eh?
And the younger one, who started yesterday (he cooperated a bit after stern words from his dad):
And this morning they couldn’t even stand on the rock next to each other for a nanosecond…this is all I got (notice the death-glare from the teenager LOL!):
I waved goodbye, wished them a wonderful day, and punched my fist into the air in elation as I entered the garage…WOOOT! I am taking the WHOLE DAY off (after I finish this blogpost and one for the next post) and sewing! WOOT WOOT WOOOOOOT! Normalcy (well, what passes for it in this house) returns!

Can I read this as declaration of independence — at least for a few hours? Happy sewing!

Aaaaah-the joys of school day freedom! I spent 24 years on the school side of that day, so not so much a celebration for me–until now! Retirement means I don’t have to spend any more years with them on a daily basis, so I celebrate with all of you who are sending your darlings off for another school year!

Well, I’m three weeks into death stares from teenagers….but in less than three years I will celebrate liberation with you!

Sounds like you may have moved into your bribery stage of parenting. Bribes might work to get them more cooperative for picture taking. Tell them it’s part of their child to parent duties to stand still and fake a smile for some pictures. Tell them to be thankful it’s digital! When my kids were coming along, it was the old fashion film cameras and one neede much more than a nanosecond to even focus those things. But at least you have documentation, though it might not exactly be what you wanted, they look great! Growing so fast as you already know! Happy Autumn to you!

But, oh, it is so much fun to drag those teenage pictures out in later years. And DH and I have lots of laughs, even when the grown children are not around.
