This quilt was made as a gift for my school, San Domenico School. I had wanted to make a quilt for them for several years, but didn't know what to choose as a subject matter. When the Alumnae Bulletin arrived in Fall 2005, I saw that Christmas Tableaux (the annual Christmas program) would celebrate its 100th consecutive performance that year, and knew I had my subject.
The Christmas Tableaux program is based on the paintings of early Renaissance painter Fra Angelico, and uses Christmas hymns and Bible verses for the words of the Angels and Prophets of the Annunciation, the Shepherds and the Nativity. I used those same sources as my inspiration for this quilt. To see more pictures and learn (a lot) more about the background of this quilt, please visit my blog (link in the nav bar above). Click on the month of June 2006 and scroll to the entries for June 20 and later for information on the images, words, techniques and background.
Size: 51 tall x 69 inches wide. A Gift to the Sisters, lay faculty and staff, and students of San Domenico School (San Anselmo, California), past, present and future.
I am honored that the Sisters of San Domenico selected this piece as the artwork for their Official 2006 Christmas Card.
