Sometimes something literally stops you in your tracks, makes you back up, and look again. In autumn, I was visiting the Belfast (Maine) Farmers' Market. On my way back to the car I passed a stall with **pink**, truly PINK, oyster mushrooms of the most amazing color. I backed up, asked the young woman if I could take photos, and did. I've included one of my original photos below. Apparently they lose some of the color when cooked, but they really are this color. I dyed the fabric pink, then used textile paints to add more color, shadows, and the tawny brown caps. Materials: artisty-dyed cotton, textile paints and inks, mock-trapunto, polyester thread, wool blend batting. Size 30 x 50 inches. SOLD! In the collection of Susan Fletcher King. |
