Conversations I

>

Photographs of the Getty Museum have always captured my imagination.  Finally, in 2010, I was able to visit there.  I took a zillion photos, but of course none was the precise image I wanted for this piece, so I merged several to capture the conversations and the echoes and memories of conversations, the tables, the striking shadows cast by the bistro tables and chairs and the clear Los Angeles sky.  I dyed all the fabrics to precisely match the sky, tables, and stone.

As I worked, I realized there were also conversations between the architecture and landscape, the artists and the patrons, the sea and the sky, the artist and their materials, so I named this series of one large and two smaller quilts Conversations 1, 2 and 3.  One of the smaller quilts was donated to the Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) auction, the other and this larger piece are still available.
